A Slow, Thoughtful Reopening, in Phases

Earlier this week an NC judge ruled that the state’s public health restrictions do not apply to congregations.  However, like the leaders of the majority of other congregations of every denomination, including Unitarian Universalists, ERUUF leaders are proceeding toward reopening with great caution and will not begin to slowly reopen the campus until more is understood about the virus, and safety plans are in place.

As you may know, last week the UUA issued recommendations that UU congregations plan to continue to mostly meet virtually for the coming year. While this caught some by surprise, the recommendation is in line with what other denominations are sharing with their members.  You can read the full posting here.

The ERUUF Board and Coordinating Team have created a small task force that is gathering information from CDC and other trusted sources so that they can create and implement plans that will enable ERUUF to safely and slowly reopen in stages.  As part of this effort, the task force will send out a survey and host listening sessions to learn what ERUUF members need and are concerned about. This information will inform safety plans that the Board and Coordinating Team will create.

While much is unknown, one thing is certain—we will continue to Livestream Sunday services even after we are safely able to gather in person in large numbers. This has been on ERUUF’s strategic plan for years, and now thanks to very generous grants from the Eno River Fellowship Foundation, this is now possible. We are very grateful for the Foundation’s generous support for ERUUF in this time of crisis.

Update on Rev. Brett

Reverend Jacqueline is on medical leave and is doing really well as she recovers from last week’s surgery. In a few weeks she’ll begin the last phase of her treatment. The very best way we can support her right now is by not contacting her directly as she takes time and space to rebuild her strength and energy.  If you’d like to make her a meal or sign up for a walk with her please contact .  The team is also very happy to pass along supportive messages or cards to Rev. Brett (Jacqueline is not checking her ERUUF email while on medical leave).
