We begin an exploration of heritage during the month of October: the inward pull of the ideas and cultures we've inherited, what we've let go of for something else, and our dreams for those who follow us.

We celebrate the beginning of a new program year in a multi-generational service during which we'll pour libations, reconnect with one another, hear the choirs, and celebrate with a ritual that marks the gathering of the waters of our lives into beloved community. It is customary to bring a small jar of water from a place you may have visited this summer or even your home tap.

As Unitarian Universalists, we belong to a vibrant state-wide movement for justice, united by the belief that a new North Carolina is possible. Our state currently faces an onslaught of attacks to our democracy, LGBTQ rights, abortion access, public education and more. This Sunday, we will explore how the moon offers us wisdom into the courage, faith, and joy that we are called to in this moment.
Rev. Lisa Garcia-Sampson serves as the Executive Director of UU Justice NC, The Unitarian Universalist Justice Ministry of North Carolina. In this role, she has the pleasure of working with over two dozen UU congregations across the state on a range of intersectional justice issues.
