Artist's Statement: Bees & Things & Flowers is one artist’s rendering of The Natural World. It is my way of thanking God for creating and inhabiting these vessels. It is also the portal between The Artist I used to be and The Artist I am becoming. The opportunity to create and display this collection has been an invitation to play, to practice, to try, to believe in myself and remember the beneficial nature of doing what you love; not because it will make you rich or famous, not because you feel you have something inherently necessary to say, but because it feels good, because it is healing to try your hand at being a creator. I’ve heard we are made in God’s image, so if God is a creator, then so am I, and so are you. To make something out of nothing, especially in this very practical sense, gives the brain proof it can be done on a spiritual or quantum level. Craft is conjure. If I can turn white space into a work of Art, if I can make silence into meaningful conversation, then what else can I do? What else can I alchemize? How else might I alter this reality? I make Art because it keeps me from falling off the planet. I make Art because it feels good and that is enough.
