UU Justice NC September 27, 2024

UU Justice NC's Friday Action Hour, September 27th at 11:00 - Tell the Legislature to Vote NO on HB 10 Veto Override. Last week, Governor Cooper vetoed HB 10, a bill that would make our communities less safe, increase fear in immigrant communities and undermine democratically elected sheriffs. And, at a time when public schools in our state remain severely underfunded, HB 10 includes a $554 million expansion of private school vouchers. This week, we will be joined by Maria Lopez Gonzalez, Public Policy Advocate at the NC Budget & Tax Center. She will provide a briefing on HB 10, and then put us to work, calling key elected officials who could determine whether the General Assembly successfully overrides the Governor's veto. Review this week's resources and actions on our Google Doc, and Join via this Zoom Link.

Drive Folks to the Polls During Early Voting

ERUUF’s UU the Vote is collaborating with the statewide Disability Rights North Carolina (DRNC) to drive their constituents to the polls in Granville and Person counties, where there is a huge need, during Early Voting (October 17-November 2).

All you need is a clean car with working seatbelts, a mobile phone with GPS, enthusiasm, and a commitment to get people where they need to go, so they can exercise their right to vote. You can choose which county to go to, a morning or afternoon shift, your preferred day(s) of the week, and whether you do it by yourself or pair up with a buddy.

UU The Vote’s organizing team (Lonna Harkrader, Nancy Couts, Sandy Hochel, and Trisha Lester) is trying to get a sense of how many folks are interested in helping so that we can give Disability Rights an estimate of number of volunteers to expect in October. Early Voting is only 17 days. Let’s show DRNC how ERUUF shows up when we collaborate, and let’s get those voters to the polls!

Please complete this form as soon as possible if you’re interested in getting involved. More specific information will be forthcoming in mid-September.

Questions? Contact Trisha Lester.

We Invite You to Get Involved in the 2024 Election!

ERUUF’s UU the Vote Team and Showing Up for Democracy Action Group: Lonna Harkrader, Nancy Couts, Sandy Hochel, Trisha Lester, and Julie Welch are working hard to provide opportunities for members and friends of ERUUF to get involved in nonpartisan activities for the 2024 election. There’s postcarding, driving folks to the polls in Granville and Person counties during Early Voting, phone banking, texting, canvassing, and offering home hospitality for other UUs coming from out of state to help canvas. Let’s Do Something! Watch E-News and check the website (under Justice>>>Justice News) for more information.

Beginning September 26th, the NCCADP team will walk 136 miles to raise awareness of the 136 lives at risk of execution in North Carolina and to call on Governor Roy Cooper to eliminate that risk by commuting death sentences to prison terms before he leaves office at the end of 2024. UU Justice NC September 6, 2024

UU Justice NC's Friday Action Hour, September 13th at 11:00 am - This week, the NC General Assembly was called back into session to vote on legislation HB 10. This bill would siphon public funding to private schools and wealthy families and establish anti-immigrant measures that are costly and don’t make us safer. On Friday, we will take action in response to this dangerous legislation. Review this week's resources and actions on our Google Doc, and Join via this Zoom Link.
