In addition to his frequent presence at ERUUF on Sunday mornings, Floyd McKissick Jr is a former NC State Senator and currently serves on the North Carolina Utilities Commission.
Today he’ll share thoughts about the moral crossroads that are before us as we approach the upcoming elections and the implications of our decisions.
Floyd B. McKissick, Jr., has been involved in politics and community service his entire life. He was a pioneer in desegregating schools as a child in Durham, NC. He served on Durham’s City Council for 8 years and 13 years in the NC Senate where he was the Senior Deputy Democratic Leader. He also served a term as Chair of the NC Legislative Black Caucus. He has previously served as First Vice Chair of the NC Democratic Party and as a Member of the National Democratic Committee, among other positions. He currently serves as Chair of the Consumers and the Public Interest Committee of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners and is past president of the Southeastern Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners.
A practicing attorney since 1983, he received his Bachelor's degree from Clark University, Masters degrees in Regional Planning from UNC Chapel Hill, and in Public Policy from Harvard University. He received his JD from Duke University School of Law and is currently an instructor at Duke’s Sanford School of Public Policy.
