In the Christian tradition, today marks the first Sunday of Advent, a season that includes the four Sundays before Christmas, and established around 590 CE. Each of the four Sundays in Advent has a theme associated with it – Love, Hope, Joy, and Peace.  Join with the ERUUF Christian Fellowship to explore Love and its close cousin Compassion -- a "feeling with" others, a virtue at the center of the Way of Jesus and every major religion. On this Sunday we celebrate the Day of the Dead in ritual and candle lighting honoring those who are now our ancestors. All are encouraged to bring a photograph or small object as together we construct a community altar to honor ancestors we call forward from memory.

Tribes and Native Americans in North Carolina

During this Sunday’s service guest speaker, Kara Stewart, member of the Sappony tribe will share about North Carolina’s eight state-recognized American Indian tribes and the Native Americans who are all around us today.

She will also offer a presentation and deeper discussion at 12:30 pm in the Commons Room.

Kara Stewart was a teacher in North Carolina public schools for 24 years. She currently serves on the North Carolina American Indian Heritage Commission and the Board of Directors of United Tribes of North Carolina.
